The resurgence of white supremacy underscores the great need of African people to chart their own destinies by advancing the application of creativity and innovation in all spheres of human endeavor. This has been key to nearly every great rising civilization. Invention and innovation, along with the huge cache of land wealth stolen from Native Americans and labor wealth stolen from African slaves enabled the cumulative wealth that has made the United States the riches nation the world has yet seen. Sarah Bartlett Churchwell (born May 27, 1970) is a professor of American Literature and Public Understanding of the Humanities at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, UK. Her expertise is in 20th- and 21st-century American literature and cultural history, especially the 1920s and 1930s.
