Ghana! What Has Happened?
For so many years, Ghana has served as a beacon of light and hope for African people around the world. What has happened. How has Ghana lost its way? Where is its leadership taking it into the future? Has it really thrown off the yokes of its colonial and neocolonial rulers?
I slept there for years after its pioneering move to independence but now I fear that its loss of that leadership mantle will be lost forever unless its people take back their authority and demand otherwise. We are getting to a point where the dichotomy between Africans and the diaspora is slowly fading away. We are all starting to see that we are all African. I was inspired daily by visions of what it was to become but I’m no longer certain it will pass that way. Ghana! What has happened to you? Did President Akuffo-Addo sell out his country? The diaspora has positively impacted countries through increased trade activities, investments and the transfer of skills but awakened ones among this group may very well eliminate Ghana as a final destination on the continent given the drift toward capitulation to old colonial masters.
