Inventors and Professor Singer

The technological progress of Africa and its diasporans was dramatically broken beginning with slavery and later through its colonization by European powers. With the arrival of the 21st century, a new era of an awakened Africa has dawned. In the graphic novel series we are developing entitled “Invention School”, curious young African students explore their creative potential for solving everyday problems through a subset of engineering skills under the watchful and loving guidance of highly skilled and creative science and engineering inventors from throughout the African diaspora. In order to complement this dream of an imaginary “Invention School” we have chosen to establish a real-world invention school (Tharaka Invention Academy) in Marimanti, Kenya within Tharaka-Nithi County. We are preparing a generation of African inventors. We are forging a new narrative of progress and innovation among Tharaka’s youth backed by a “can do” spirit and a desire to dream big using effective equipment and curriculum.

Prof. Singer is the founder and Director of Tharaka Invention Academy. Love of teaching goes back to his early adulthood and that first position as a teacher assistant with Project Head Start for pre-school children. Prof. Singer has since accumulated 20 years of teaching in the U.S., South Korea, and Ghana. (art, English, and especially mechanical engineering at a nationally acclaimed engineering university).
