KENYA and the African diaspora?
KENYA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA?
I asked the Kenyan Embassy in Washington D.C. the following question:
“Do you have any information about steps Kenya has taken or will take to specifically welcome non-Kenyan Africans in the diaspora to come and settle and do business in Kenya? My interest specifically centers on policies which would impact African Americans who are interested in helping with Kenya’s overall development and who wish to settle in Kenya.
I have been receiving a lot of information on social media reporting Kenya’s activities and intention but most of it appears false or misleading. So, I wanted to hear from Kenya directly for answers to these questions.”
KENYAN EMBASSY’S REPLY
“We appreciate the vast interest in obtaining Kenyan citizenship. We also note our President’s pronouncement on the same matter regarding all people of African descent. However, there are still no policy guidelines on the same. As such, the current citizenship laws as contained in the Constitution of Kenya 2010, and Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 prevails.
