Problem Pals™: Research Brief Builder
Turning Research into Invention Fuel
Welcome, Apprentice Inventor!
You are beginning an exciting journey of learning how to identify real-world problems, understand scientific research, and turn knowledge into practical invention ideas.
At Tharaka Invention Academy, you don’t need to be a scientist to start thinking like an inventor. You need curiosity, a problem worth solving, and a willingness to learn.
1. What does this app do?
Problem Pals™: Research Brief Builder is your AI-powered research assistant.
It helps you take complicated research from scientific papers, reports, or PDF documents and transform it into a short, easy-to-understand research brief.
Instead of struggling through technical language, you can focus on:
• What researchers discovered.
• How they carried out their research.
• What evidence supports their findings.
• What remains unknown.
• How the findings might inspire your invention.
2. What will you receive?
Every research brief follows six sections.
Your Research Brief
1. Title
The study’s title, when available.
2. Key Findings
Five to eight important discoveries explained in simple language.
3. Method Snapshot
A short explanation of how the researchers conducted their study.
4. Limitations & Caveats
What the research cannot prove, what is uncertain, and where evidence is missing.
5. So What for My Invention
A practical explanation of how this knowledge could inform your invention idea.
6. Next Queries
Three suggested Google Scholar searches to help you investigate further.
Your result is designed as a compact, plain-text brief suitable for saving as research_brief.txt.
3. Benefits for TIA apprentices
Understand difficult research
Turn technical information into language you can understand and explain to others.
Discover invention opportunities
Identify practical problems, research gaps, and potential directions for invention.
Improve research skills
Learn to question evidence, recognize uncertainty, and find additional studies.
Explore African applications
Consider how research could be adapted to local challenges while identifying what still needs testing.
4. What are its limitations?
Problem Pals™ is a learning assistant, not a replacement for scientists, engineers, teachers, or qualified professionals.
It cannot guarantee that a study is correct, prove that an invention will work, or establish that a proposed design is safe. It also cannot reliably describe methods or results missing from your pasted excerpt.
Important: Its conclusions depend on the research text you provide. It will identify missing information and uncertainty rather than invent evidence.
For medical, safety-critical, or other high-risk inventions, professional review and appropriate testing are essential.
5. How to begin
1
Find a research paper
Look for research connected to a problem you want to solve.
2
Copy and paste the research text
Aim for 1,500–6,000 characters from the paper or PDF.
3
Add an optional invention focus
Example: “How could this research help develop affordable water filters?”
4
Generate and refine your brief
Choose Summarize, then request Shorter, More Technical, or Add African Use Case.
6. Try your first research brief
Paste your research text below and choose an invention focus if you have one.

Summarize My Research
Your first challenge as a TIA apprentice is simple: Find one real problem, investigate what research says about it, and identify one promising idea worth exploring.
Remember, invention begins with understanding a problem, not rushing to build a solution.
